For women in the Islamic world, the modesty principle described in The Qur’an gives rise to a wide spectrum that runs from high-fashion designer head scarves framing a professional makeup job, to full-on head to hand to toe complete body covering with only a tiny mesh panel through which to see the world.
None of these variations of Muslim female attire are specifically called for in The Qur’an. The wide spectrum of female dress is completely a product of the cultural, social and sectarian definition of what is meant by “modesty” and “intimate” parts.
