Sigmund Freud was the defining voice of clinical psychology and psychiatry in the late 19 and early 20th centuries. He is considered the father of psychoanalysis.
The main Freudian concepts include:
- Free association

In 1886, while studying in Paris and experimenting with the clinical application of hypnosis, Freud developed his groundbreaking clinical method of free association therapy.
Free association encouraged patients to openly express any ideas, emotions, images or memories that float from the conscious experience or were perhaps retrieved from their unconscious experience via dreams or hypnosis.
