Andrew Newberg, as you might remember, is one of the authors of the book, Words Can Change Your Brain.
As I started digging a little deeper into how words can impact people, I came across a video in which Newberg is giving a talk.
You can take look by following this link.
Newberg says:
We realize that we can’t just look at people as biological. That seems to be the prevailing perspective on the medicine side. And more and more people are realizing that we are not just biological beings, but we are psychological, and social, and spiritual. And I think that being able to look [at] and explore all of these different dimensions of who we are as individuals and people is absolutely critical for us to understand ourselves; from the medical perspective to try to find the best ways of healing each other, and healing ourselves.
He goes on to talk about his studies connected to meditation and prayer, and how these practices affect the brain in the moment, as well as how that changes your brain if you keep doing it.
Although he doesn’t offer any definitive conclusions in this video, the general sentiment appears to be that there is a difference between the people who adopt spiritual practices and those who don’t.
